Google Photos offers a range of AI capabilities, including Magic Eraser for removing unwanted objects from images, Photo Unblur for sharpening out-of-focus images, and Portrait Light for adjusting the lighting in photos.

In a recent blog post, the company announced that AI-powered editing features, previously limited to Pixel phones and Google One cloud storage subscribers, will become accessible to a broader user base from May 15 onwards, extending over several weeks.

According to Google, the extension will also enable these functions on new devices, including Pixel tablets. For desktop users, a Chromebook Plus running ChromeOS version 118+ or a minimum of 3GB of RAM is required. Mobile users must have iOS 15 or Android 8.0 installed on their devices to access these features.

The innovative Magic Editor tool, introduced alongside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro last fall, leverages generative AI to seamlessly fill in missing elements in photos. It offers a range of photo enhancements, such as repositioning subjects, removing objects, and adjusting the sky’s color, to elevate the overall visual appeal.

Google is set to broaden the reach of its Magic Editor feature to all Pixel smartphones from next month onwards. According to the announcement, every Google Photos user on iOS and Android will be granted 10 Magic Editor photo saves per month. Additionally, Pixel device users and Google One premium members with a 2TB storage plan will have unlimited saves at their disposal.
