Google’s AI Mode Lands in Kenya: What It Means for Everyday Internet Users

In a statement on Thursday, the tech giant said the feature, powered by its Gemini 2.5 model, allows users to ask complex questions, receive detailed responses, and explore information through text, voice, or images.

Alex Okosi, managing director of Google Africa, said AI mode is designed to “reimagine the search experience” for users across the continent.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring AI Mode to our users in the region,” he said.

“We know that people in this region are curious and have complex questions about everything from planning a trip to understanding a new concept.

“With AI Mode, Google is reimagining the Search experience. Users will not only find the information they need more easily but will also be empowered to explore a wider range of content from across the web.”

The company explained that the feature uses a technique called “query fan-out”, which breaks a question into subtopics and runs multiple searches at once to return more relevant results.

Google added that AI mode responses include prominent links to websites to encourage content discovery.

The feature is now available as a tab on the Search results page and within the Google app on Android and iOS.
